Data Governance
Update Existing, Fill Empty, and Read-Only Settings
Depending on the platform you are connecting, some fields may be editable, mutable, or updatable, meaning that their values can change over time.
When a field supports these changes, the connection settings may display controls next to the field configuration. These controls determine how Talk2Sync handles changes received from other equivalent fields or connections.
Synchronization Behavior
The available controls allow you to temporarily or permanently:
- Detect and absorb changes or updates from equivalent fields or connections.
- Propagate detected changes to the current platform or connection.
- Ignore changes and prevent them from being applied to the field.
These settings provide control over which data sources are allowed to modify specific fields during synchronization.
Protecting a Field
If you need to protect a field and ensure that changes are never sent to that field in a particular connection, you should disable the synchronization features responsible for detecting and applying those changes.
For example, if prices or images must remain unchanged on a particular connection, make sure that both Fill Empty and Update Existing detection features are disabled for the corresponding fields.
Important: Disabling Fill Empty and Update Existing prevents these synchronization mechanisms from applying changes to the protected field on that connection.
Next Steps
- Review the synchronization settings for each field in your connection.
- Identify fields that should accept updates and those that must remain protected.
- Disable Fill Empty and Update Existing when a field must not be modified through these synchronization mechanisms.
- For the underlying synchronization priority model, see Time-Based Synchronization.
