Talk2sync, SKUs, and Product Identifiers
Understand how Talk2sync manages product identification, unique strings, and merchant SKUs across multi-platform marketplaces.
By default, when generating new products on a sales platform, Talk2sync generates a temporary unique identifier string to track and manage that specific product record during creation.
While Amazon typically expects merchants to use internal seller SKUs as unique product identifiers, Talk2sync operates differently by sending its own unique identification string. This architectural choice ensures that Talk2sync's full potential for managing multi-platform products, bundles, wholesale packs, and variations functions seamlessly without mapping conflicts.
Technical Rationale and Multi-Platform Flexibility
To maintain system flexibility and robust cross-platform synchronization, internal merchant SKUs are intentionally not utilized as primary unique keys:
- Channel Independence: Each connection requires a distinct, unique product identifier. Merchants often manage multiple shopping carts or e-commerce storefronts that reference the exact same physical product SKU.
- Avoiding Mapping Ambiguity: If multiple Amazon product listings shared the exact same SKU, it would create confusion when viewing "Amazon equivalences" inside Talk2sync, disrupting the clear 1-1 relationship expected in your actual Amazon inventory listings.
Even though Talk2sync transmits its proprietary identifier to Amazon, you can still view your actual product SKUs and track them transparently within Talk2sync and across your sales orders.
